About this opportunity

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Portland District (USACE NWP) is seeking cooperative agreement applicants for the Walama Restoration Project, which aims to support environmental stewardship through native landscape and wildlife habitat restoration. Eligible applicants include county, city, and state governments, as well as independent school districts, focused on providing education and training in ecological restoration to young professionals, veterans, displaced workers, and students. The project requires participants to gain hands-on experience in project planning, development, and implementation across various environmental restoration activities such as land stewardship, wildlife habitat improvement, riparian enhancement, and native grassland restoration. Applicants must demonstrate organizational purpose related to youth/student/veteran education in conservation environments and provide proof of past performance in resource management, conservation, and related fields. The grant opportunity was posted on August 5, 2025, with proposals due by August 19, 2025, and will be evaluated based on criteria to be specified in the full announcement on grants.gov.

The project will primarily be performed at southern lakes within the Willamette Valley Project, including Fern Ridge, Fall Creek, Dexter, Lookout Point, Hills Creek, Cottage Grove, and Dorena, with minimal activity expected at Cougar, Foster-Greenpeter, and Detroit-Big Cliff sites. While specific award amounts are not explicitly stated, the Youth Conservation Services Federal Grant Program typically provides cooperative agreements ranging from $20,000 to $250,000, with project durations of 6-18 months. Participants will engage in comprehensive environmental restoration and educational activities, gaining practical experience in ecological management and conservation techniques while supporting USACE's environmental stewardship objectives.
