The Veterinary Services Grant Program is soliciting applications to support education, extension, and rural practice enhancement initiatives addressing veterinarian shortage situations. Administered by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, this program will award up to $3.822 million in fiscal year 2024 to eligible state and local government agencies, veterinary schools and organizations, and private veterinary clinics providing food and large animal services in rural shortage areas. Funded projects must establish or expand veterinary education programs, provide continuing education and extension, or purchase equipment and support personnel to enhance private practices serving designated shortage areas for at least three years, with evaluation criteria focusing on technical merit, expertise, and achieving objectives. Applications are due by March 21, 2024.
This program will award Education, Extension, and Training grants of up to $250,000 over three years, and Rural Practice Enhancement grants of up to $125,000 over three years. Successful applicants will use the funding to support projects performed in veterinarian shortage situations across the United States and insular areas, as defined in the Request for Applications.
