About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health Office of Research Infrastructure Programs seeks applications for equipment acquisition or upgrades to systematically study critical environmental extrinsic factors in animal research, with an application due date of September 25, 2026. Applicants must demonstrate that the research area is broadly applicable to two or more NIH Institutes or Centers and evaluates biological processes impacting multiple organ systems; clinical trials are not allowed.
Eligible applicants include state, tribal, county, and city governments; public and private higher education institutions; 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits; small businesses; for-profit organizations; independent school districts; public or Indian housing authorities; special district governments; Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions; Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions; HBCUs; Hispanic-serving institutions; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities; faith-based or community-based organizations; regional organizations; and U.S. territories or possessions. Non-domestic entities and foreign components are not eligible.
Applicants may be core facilities, resource centers, animal vivaria, or individual investigators of shared resources. Requested equipment must be capable of recording and reporting multiple environmental, biological, or biobehavioral parameters simultaneously.
Peer review evaluates scientific merit and significance; technical adequacy of experimental design; investigator competency; facility adequacy; budget necessity relative to proposed work; and alignment with program objectives. For instrumentation specifically, review emphasizes need for the equipment, technical expertise in the requested technology, advancement of research projects upon instrument availability, instrument usage administration, and institutional support for long-term maintenance.
The program operates under CFDA 93.351 (Research Infrastructure Programs). No cost share is specified. Award ceilings and expected number of awards are not stated in the source.
Synopsis
The Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) invites grant applications from core facilities, resource centers, animal vivaria, or individual investigators of other shared resources to systematically study the roles of critical environmental extrinsic factors in biological, behavioral, and treatment studies using animal model species, with the objective of enhancing the rigor and reproducibility of animal research. The research area must be broadly applicable to the scientific interests of two or more NIH Institutes or Centers (ICs) and must evaluate the biological processes that impact multiple organ systems in order to align with the ORIPs NIH-wide mission and programs. The program supports the acquisition or update of modern equipment for measuring, monitoring, recording, and reporting environmental, biological or biobehavioral variables. The equipment requested must be capable of recording and reporting multiple parameters simultaneously.
Eligibility
Other Eligible Applicants include the following: Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions; Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs); Eligible Agencies of the Federal Government; Faith-based or Community-based Organizations; Hispanic-serving Institutions; Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized); Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations); Regional Organizations; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs) ; U.S. Territory or Possession; Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations) are not eligible to apply. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply. Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are allowed.
