About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health, in partnership with the FDA Center for Tobacco Products, is soliciting applications for Tobacco Centers of Regulatory Science (TCORS) under a forecast announcement; the specific NOFO due date will be published in the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, higher education institutions (public and private), state and local governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), small businesses, for-profit organizations, and faith-based or community-based organizations; non-domestic entities and U.S. territories are also eligible.
Centers must include at least three discrete hypothesis-driven Research Projects organized around a scientific Integrative Theme. Research topics fall within FDA's regulatory authority and include addiction behavior, communications, health effects, impact analysis, marketing, product composition and design, and toxicity. Awards are administered by NIH using funds from FDA's Center for Tobacco Products under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (P.L. 111-31). The program objective is to expand the scientific base informing tobacco product regulation to protect public health and support FSPTCA implementation.
All applications are subject to scientific peer review by an appropriate review panel and the relevant NIH Institute or Center Advisory Council. Funding decisions are based on scientific merit, program relevance, and program balance, with the FDA Center for Tobacco Products making final determinations on relevance and program balance. Applicants requesting $500 thousand or more in direct costs must contact the appropriate NIH Institute or Center no later than six weeks before submission. The parent program is CFDA 93.077, Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act Regulatory Research.
