About this opportunity
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) within the U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking applicants to develop and implement projects that increase fruit and vegetable purchases among Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) participants through point-of-purchase financial incentives across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and Puerto Rico. Eligible applicants are limited to governmental agencies and nonprofit organizations, and all projects must include dollar-for-dollar matching contributions, establish memoranda of understanding with participating retailers, secure letters of support from applicable SNAP/NAP implementing agencies, and develop comprehensive evaluation plans. Projects will be evaluated using equally weighted criteria focused on alignment with program priorities, community benefits, organizational qualifications, evaluation capacity, and project sustainability through a two-stage review process consisting of administrative compliance screening followed by peer review. All applicants must comply with SNAP/NAP regulations, ensure equal treatment of program participants, and participate in the GusNIP comprehensive program evaluation managed by the National Training, Technical Assistance, Evaluation, and Information Center. Applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov by June 16, 2026, at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
The program offers approximately $36.3 million in federal funding available for Fiscal Year 2026 distributed across three competitive project categories: Pilot Projects (FPP) with maximum awards of $100,000 for 12-month periods, Standard Projects (FIP) with maximum awards of $500,000 for up to 36 months, and Large Scale Projects (FLSP) exceeding $500,000 for up to 36 months. Organizations in American Samoa, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Micronesia may request waiver of matching requirements for awards of $200,000 or less. Projects will be performed in underserved rural and urban communities within each applicant's geographic service area across the eligible jurisdictions.
