About this opportunity

The National Institutes of Health is forecasting a Technology Development Program grant opportunity supporting technology research projects from proof-of-concept through prototype development, with priority given to innovation over feasibility. No application deadline is specified in this forecast notice.

Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, public and Indian housing authorities, tribal organizations (both federally and non-federally recognized), independent school districts, for-profit organizations, county and city/township governments, special district governments, state governments, higher education institutions (public and private), small businesses, tribal governments (federally recognized), eligible federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, faith-based or community-based organizations, and regional organizations.

Projects must focus on technological advances and should not include tests of biological hypotheses or biomedical aims. The program prioritizes technological innovation to maximize impact on future biomedical research.

This opportunity is assigned to the Biomedical Research and Research Training program (CFDA 93.859), administered by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). Applications will be reviewed for scientific and technical merit by an initial review group and national advisory council. NIGMS considers portfolio breadth, investigator approaches, total available funding to the applicant, research area priority, early-stage and at-risk investigator status, and whether the PI holds multiple NIGMS-funded R01 awards in making funding decisions. The Institute generally prioritizes the MIRA program over R01 awards and is unlikely to fund more than one NIGMS R01 per principal investigator.
