Synopsis
The purpose of the program is to assist the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in implementing activities to strengthen prevention and control efforts for infectious diseases, including vaccine-preventable diseases, in U.S.-bound refugee populations worldwide, by: 1) establishing surveillance for infectious diseases in U.S.-bound refugees; 2) evaluating the health status of U.S.-bound refugees for the purposes of informing and improving U.S. policy regarding overseas and post-arrival health assessments; 3) preventing the importation and spread of infectious diseases into the United States; and 4) improving the health of refugees who are undergoing resettlement to the United States and protecting the health of the communities that are receiving them.
