About this opportunity

The Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory has issued Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) DE-FOA-0003344, titled "SuperTruck Charge," to seek innovative and replicable solutions to support electrified medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs), accelerate charging infrastructure deployment, reduce grid impacts through vehicle-grid integration strategies, and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The FOA aims to address gaps in electrified MHDV charging infrastructure and support greater utilization of electrified vehicle fleets. Eligible applicants include domestic entities such as institutions of higher education, for-profit and non-profit organizations, state/local governments, and Indian Tribes. The FOA is authorized under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and falls under CFDA 81.086 Conservation Research and Development.

The FOA will provide up to $72 million in federal funding over 3-5 years for 2-3 anticipated awards. Key deadlines include Concept Papers due October 8, 2024 and Full Applications due November 20, 2024. The outcomes of this program are expected to lead to accelerated deployment of large-scale EV charging infrastructure with clean energy resource technologies, as well as provide greater grid resiliency and reliability.

Synopsis

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is meant to seek innovative and replicable solutions to support electrified medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs), accelerate charging infrastructure deployment, reduce grid impacts through vehicle-grid integration (VGI) strategies, and drastically reduce GHG emissions in support of the Administration goals. This FOA supports the administration goals laid out above by identifying potential solutions to address the current gaps in electrified MHDV charging infrastructure necessary to enable greater utilization of electrified fleets, and drastically reducing GHG emissions due to MHD trucks. The outcomes of this program will lead to accelerated deployment of large-scale EV charging infrastructure with clean energy resource technologies, as well as provide greater grid resiliency and reliability.
