About this opportunity
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is forecasting a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN) 3.0, a preclinical network supporting translational studies for cerebroprotection in experimental models of acute ischemic stroke, using Cooperative Agreements (U01); no application deadline has been announced.
SPAN 3.0 will comprise up to six peer-reviewed data collection sites and a Coordinating Center that oversees administration, coordination, and data sharing. Applications are not being solicited at this time; this is advance notice to allow potential applicants to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.
Eligible applicants include state governments, for-profit organizations, higher education institutions (public and private), nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), city and county governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), small businesses, special district governments, Indian housing authorities, independent school districts, and faith-based or community-based organizations. Non-domestic entities and U.S. territories are also eligible.
The network focuses on preclinical testing of stroke treatments with emphasis on rigor and built-in replication. Investigators with expertise in multi-center translational studies for acute cerebroprotection in experimental models of acute ischemic stroke are encouraged to begin considering applications.
The opportunity is assigned to NINDS Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853). The program evaluates proposals on scientific merit and significance, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator competency, facilities and resources, budget necessity, and relevance to program objectives.
Forecast synopsis
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the Coordinating Center and Testing Sites of the Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN), a preclinical network to support translational studies for cerebroprotection in experimental models of acute ischemic stroke. Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. This NOFO will utilize Cooperative Agreements (U01). Investigators with expertise and insights into this area of multi-center translational studies for acute cerebroprotection in experimental models of acute ischemic stroke are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this NOFO. SPAN 3.0 will be a collaborative network for the preclinical testing of stroke treatments comprised of up to 6 peer-reviewed data collection sites that emphasize rigor with built-in replication and a Coordinating Center (CC) that will oversee administration, coordination, and data sharing of the network.
