About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is forecasting supplemental funding for 34 incumbent American Indian and Alaska Native tribes and regional tribally designated organizations that received initial awards under CDC-RFA-TO-23-0001, with applications for new FY 2027 Centers, Institutes, and Offices project plans due according to a schedule not specified in this forecast. Eligibility is strictly limited to the 34 existing CDC-RFA-TO-23-0001 recipients; new applicants are not eligible. Awards are cooperative agreements with a 12-month budget period and period of performance of up to five years, subject to availability of funds and satisfactory progress.

Only federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native tribal nations and regional tribally designated organizations qualify; applicants must demonstrate effective engagement with tribal populations, methodical and efficient capacity to reach tribal members in AI/AN communities, and a record of working with AI/AN populations. If the recipient is a tribally owned and operated organization, it must provide a letter of tribal council approval for the proposed program.

Project plans must align with one or more Healthy People 2030 goals within the Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support framework: Community, Health Communication, Health Information Technology, Public Health Infrastructure, or Workforce. Measurable outcomes must support the program's ultimate goals: decreased morbidity and mortality among AI/AN populations, advanced capacity to identify and respond to public health threats, improved workforce capacity for essential public health services, increased culturally appropriate evidence-based programs and policies, and improved collaborative capacity to address AI/AN health needs and advance health equity.

An objective review panel composed primarily of CDC subject matter experts with demonstrated tribal experience will evaluate applications. Proposals may be funded out of rank order based on health conditions and geographic diversity of populations served. CFDA 93.772, Tribal Public Health Capacity Building and Quality Improvement Umbrella Cooperative Agreement.
