About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is offering the Specially Adapted Housing Assistive Technology (SAHAT) Grant Program to encourage the development of new assistive technologies that can aid or enhance the ability of veterans and servicemembers to live in adapted homes. The grant aims to fund innovations and technologies that address unmet needs, particularly for veterans with disabilities from toxic exposures. Eligible applicants include both for-profit and non-profit entities, and applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as innovation, meeting unmet needs, promoting independent living, and the applicant's qualifications. The application deadline is 11:59 pm EST on April 28, 2024, and submissions must be made through Grants.gov.
The maximum award amount is $200,000 per fiscal year, and funding will be provided as grants. The SAHAT Grant Program is authorized under the Veterans' Benefit Act of 2010 (CFDA 64.051) and is managed by the VA's Loan Guaranty Service. Successful applicants must complete VA Form 26-0967 prior to grant award, and the grant-funded activities must conclude by August 31, 2025.
Synopsis
The Loan Guaranty Service (LGY), which is an office of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), is announcing the availability of funds for the Specially Adapted Housing Assistive Technology (SAHAT) Grant Program. The objective of the grant is to encourage the development of new assistive technologies for specially adapted housing grant participants. Veterans Affairs acknowledges there are many emerging technologies that could improve home adaptations or otherwise enhance a Veteran's or Servicemember's ability to live independently. Therefore, VA has defined ''new assistive technology'' as an advancement the Secretary determines could aid or enhance the ability of a Veteran or Servicemember to live in an adapted home. PLEASE NOTE: SAHAT funding does not support the construction or modification of residential dwellings for accessibility. Veterans and Servicemembers interested in receiving assistance to adapt a home are encouraged to contact their local Veterans Affairs Regional Benefits Office, Regional Loan Center, or Medical Center for more information, or visit:http://www.benefits.va.gov/homeloans/adaptedhousing.asp
