About this opportunity

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is soliciting a single-source cooperative agreement to renew the Data Translation Center for the HeartShare 2.0 program, with an application due July 9, 2026. This is a restricted-eligibility award: only individuals previously associated with the original RFA-HL-21-016 award to Northwestern University are eligible to apply, and the NHLBI intends to issue the cooperative agreement exclusively to Northwestern University.

The Data Translation Center will coordinate the overall HeartShare phenomics program, oversee enrollment and deep phenotyping of patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), curate and analyze prospective longitudinal data including multi-omics analysis, and support planning, implementation, and data analysis for precision clinical trials. The DTC comprises three required cores: an Administrative Core ($500,000 annually for Years 1–2; $400,000 for Years 3–6), a Data Portal Core ($100,000 annually), and a Data Management Core ($400,000 annually).

The NHLBI intends to commit up to $2,541,000 in total costs for one award over a maximum six-year project period. Application budgets may request up to $1,650,000 in direct costs for FY2027, declining to $1,400,000 for FY2028 and $1,150,000 annually for FY2029–FY2032. The application submission window opens June 9, 2026. Peer review is anticipated for November 2026, advisory council review for January 2027, with an earliest start date of April 2027. A companion NOFO (RFA-HL-27-008) will support Clinical Trial Centers and Clinical Centers for recruitment and follow-up of heart failure patients. The activity code is U54 (Specialized Center–Cooperative Agreements), and clinical trials are optional. This opportunity is funded under CFDA 93.837, Cardiovascular Diseases Research.
