About this opportunity
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is seeking grant applications for the FY 2026 Health Center Program Service Area Competition (SAC), aimed at improving healthcare for underserved communities by supporting comprehensive primary healthcare services. Eligible applicants include tribal governments, nonprofits, county and city governments, and state agencies, with a focus on organizations capable of delivering high-quality primary health care services. Key contract requirements include demonstrating the ability to serve at least 75% of the target patient population, providing comprehensive healthcare services, and meeting specific governance and operational standards. The evaluation criteria will likely assess applicants' capacity to deliver primary care, their understanding of community health needs, and their proposed service delivery model. The critical application deadline is November 10, 2025, with a two-phase submission process requiring initial documents in Grants.gov and supplemental information in HRSA Electronic Handbooks by December 10, 2025.
The grant opportunity offers approximately $181 million, with expectations to award 48 grants for one or four 12-month budget periods starting June 1, 2026. Award amounts will vary, with typical grants ranging from $500,000 to $2,000,000, contingent on congressional appropriation and the applicant's performance. The performance period will cover either a one-year term (June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027) or a four-year term (June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2030). Grants will support healthcare delivery across the United States and its territories, with a particular focus on medically underserved areas and populations. The funding is part of the Health Center Program (CFDA 93.224), which aims to expand access to primary healthcare services for low-income and uninsured communities.
