About this opportunity

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is seeking grant applications for the FY 2026 Health Center Program Service Area Competition (SAC), aimed at improving healthcare for underserved communities by supporting comprehensive primary healthcare services. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, state/local governments, tribal governments, and tribal organizations that can provide primary healthcare services in designated service areas. The program requires recipients to serve at least 75% of the targeted patient population and maintain a sliding fee discount program, with services spanning medical, dental, mental health, substance use disorder, vision, and enabling service categories. Applicants will be evaluated on seven merit review criteria: need, response, collaboration, capacity, impact, governance, and support requested. The application process is two-phased, with Phase 1 due on September 22, 2025, through Grants.gov and Phase 2 due on October 22, 2025, through HRSA Electronic Handbooks (EHBs).

The total available funding is $232,000,000, with approximately 93 grants expected to be awarded, and funding amounts varying per award. Grants will be available for one or four-year budget periods, with an expected award date of February 1, 2026, and a project start date of March 1, 2026. The program will support health centers across the United States and its territories, focusing on delivering primary healthcare services in medically underserved areas, with an emphasis on chronic disease prevention, cancer screening, nutrition education, and patient support services.
