About this opportunity
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) within the Department of Health and Human Services is seeking applications for the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) program. This program provides grants to eligible health professions schools, nursing schools, public health programs, and allied health programs to offer scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have financial need, including students who are members of racial and ethnic minority groups. The key objectives are to increase the number of graduates practicing in primary care, retain more students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and increase the number of graduates working in medically underserved communities. The application deadline is February 19, 2025.
The total available funding is estimated at $51,470,000 for approximately 85 grants, with a funding range of up to $650,000 per year for a 5-year period of performance from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2030. Eligible applicants must demonstrate that at least 20% of their total enrollment and graduates were from disadvantaged backgrounds during academic years 2021-2024. The program includes funding priorities and special considerations for the distribution of awards, such as minimum allocations for nursing schools, mental health programs, and midwifery programs.
Synopsis
The Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) program increases diversity in the health professions and nursing workforce by providing awards to eligible health professions schools for use in awarding scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have financial need, including students who are members of racial and ethnic minority groups.
