About this opportunity
The Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration is offering $27 million in grants through the Rural and Tribal Assistance (RTA) Pilot Program. The grants will fund planning and design phase activities for transportation projects in rural or tribal communities that could be eligible for future DOT discretionary grant or credit programs. Eligible applicants include state, local, and tribal governments, with no local match required. Applications will be accepted exclusively through the program's webpage from March 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. ET through April 3, 2025, at 4:59 p.m. ET. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to applicants meeting the specified merit criteria.
Of the total $27 million available, $10 million is set aside specifically for tribal governments. Two types of grants will be offered: Single Project grants ranging from $200,000 to $750,000, and Multi-Community grants ranging from $500,000 to $2.25 million, which must involve at least three separate communities. The funding is intended to support technical, legal, and financial assistance to advance transportation infrastructure projects in rural and tribal areas.
