About this opportunity
This federal grant opportunity from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) seeks proposals for resident instruction grants and agriculture and food science facilities and equipment projects at eligible institutions in insular areas. Proposals are due February 28, 2024 to strengthen education and research capacities through curriculum development, scientific instrumentation, and infrastructure upgrades. Eligible institutions must be located in insular areas, with funding awarded as either planning grants up to $30,000 or standard grants up to $200,000 for projects lasting 24-36 months or 36-48 months respectively. Proposals will be evaluated based on their potential to strengthen institutional capacities to deliver education in food, agricultural, and natural resource sciences to meet local needs.
Approximately $1.5 million in total funds are available each year in fiscal years 2024 and 2025 under Assistance Listing Number 10.308 for resident instruction grants and facilities and equipment projects. Successful applicants will receive funding to carry out projects at their institutions located in insular areas, with the goal of promoting education and research to support tropical and subtropical agriculture.
Synopsis
The purpose of these programs is to promote and strengthen the ability of eligible institutions in the Insular Areas to carry out education within the food, agricultural and natural resource sciences. RIIA projects strengthen institutional educational capacities, including libraries, curriculum, faculty, scientific instrumentation, instruction delivery systems, and student recruitment and retention, in order to respond to education needs in the food and agricultural sciences.
