About this opportunity

This Request for Information (RFI) is being issued by the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) to gather input from stakeholders on strategies to expand the quality, reach, impact, and equity of the Lab Embedded Entrepreneurship Program (LEEP). LEEP is a two-year fellowship program that supports clean energy entrepreneurs by connecting them with resources at the National Laboratories. EERE is considering approaches to centralize certain LEEP operations, such as a unified application portal, communications and outreach strategy, training curriculum, and fellowship management, while retaining the strengths of the current decentralized node-based model. The RFI seeks feedback on the optimal entity to serve as a "Central Lead" to coordinate these functions, as well as input on recruitment and outreach, the fellowship experience, connections to regional ecosystems, and CRADA management. Responses to this RFI are due by September 26, 2024, and EERE may or may not issue a future funding opportunity based on the input received.

This RFI is not associated with a specific funding opportunity. EERE is seeking input to inform potential future changes to the LEEP program, which could lead to a future funding opportunity. The RFI does not specify any award values, budgets, or quantities. The resulting changes to LEEP are intended to ensure it is one of the nation's most recognizable, inclusive, and expansive programs to support entrepreneurs and accelerate the development and deployment of impactful clean energy technologies at scale.

Synopsis

The purpose of this RFI is to gather input from stakeholders across the clean energy innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem regarding optimal strategies and opportunities to expand the quality, reach, impact, and equity of the Lab Embedded Entrepreneurship Program (LEEP). The information being sought under this RFI is intended to assist the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) as it considers approaches to and degrees of centralization and inter-node coordination. Resulting changes, along with other activities, will ensure LEEP is one of the nation's most recognizable, inclusive, and expansive programs to support entrepreneurs and accelerate the development and deployment of impactful clean energy technologies at scale.
