About this opportunity

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is forecasting a Notice of Funding Opportunity to solicit applications supporting the Research Centers Collaborative Network (RCCN), a cooperative agreement mechanism under Assistance Listing 93.866 (Aging Research); applications are not currently being solicited, and no hard deadline is present.

The RCCN renewal will support continuation of current high-value collaborative activities across NIA's seven research centers programs while encouraging new initiatives including special pilot funding programs, faculty exchange programs particularly for new and early-stage investigators, expanded networking and collaboration tools, and enhanced mentoring infrastructure. The program aims to leverage NIA's substantial investments by fostering interdisciplinary efforts in aging research through collaborations and networking across the research center portfolio.

Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), state and local governments, county governments, city and township governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and non-federally recognized), Indian housing authorities, special district governments, independent school districts, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, small businesses, for-profit organizations, federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, faith-based and community-based organizations, and regional organizations.

The cooperative agreement will use the U24 activity code. The NIA encourages investigators with expertise in aging research and research networks to begin developing meaningful collaborations and responsive projects in advance of NOFO publication. Applications will undergo initial scientific review by non-NIH scientists and secondary review by the National Advisory Council on Aging. Evaluation will assess scientific merit and significance, technical adequacy, investigator competency, facility adequacy, budget necessity, and relevance to program objectives.

Forecast synopsis

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications to support the Research Centers Collaborative Network (RCCN), a network to enhance collaborations across NIA's seven research centers programs. These collaborations are intended to leverage NIA's substantial investments by fostering and sustaining the development of novel interdisciplinary efforts in aging research. This renewal NOFO will call for continuation of the current high-value RCCN activities and encourage new activities such as special pilot funding programs; faculty exchange programs, particularly among new and early stage investigators; expanded networking and collaboration tools; and development of enhanced mentoring infrastructure. Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. This NOFO will utilize the U24 activity code. Investigators with expertise and insights into aging research and research networks are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this new NOFO.
