About this opportunity
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within the Department of Health and Human Services is soliciting applications for the Recovery Community Services Program with an application deadline of July 27, 2026. The program funds expansion of recovery support services (RSS) and peer recovery support services (PRSS) for individuals living with substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders (COD), including those in recovery.
Eligible applicants include Single State Agencies for Substance Use; the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau; state and local government; federally recognized tribes and tribal organizations; state administrative agencies; service providers; community and nonprofit organizations; universities and colleges; research institutions; and training and technical assistance providers.
The program operates under CFDA 93.490, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment Projects of Regional and National Significance, which supports SAMHSA's five strategic objectives: expanding access to substance use disorder treatment, improving treatment service quality, supporting recovery-oriented systems of care, addressing the opioid and overdose crisis, and strengthening the treatment workforce. Awards are determined following merit review, program analysis, and CSAT National Advisory Council concurrence. Applicants must retain records for a three-year period, extending beyond that period if a final audit has not been completed or findings resolved. Award amounts, period of performance, and the expected number of awards are determined as part of the Notice of Funding Opportunity.
Synopsis
The purpose of this program is to strengthen recovery communities by expanding access to recovery support services (RSS), including peer recovery support services (PRSS), for individuals living with substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring substance use and mental disorders (COD), including those in recovery.
