About this opportunity

The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration is forecasting grants to support cancer screening and health education for populations exposed to uranium mining or U.S. nuclear weapons testing, with no current application deadline posted.

Eligible applicants are located in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming and include National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers, Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals or medical centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers, state and local government health agencies, Indian Health Service facilities, federally recognized tribal governments, and nonprofit organizations. Applicants must target populations described under sections 4(a)(1)(A)(i) and 5(a)(1)(A) of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (42 U.S.C. 2210 note).

Awards support up to three-year project periods. Projects may be renewed non-competitively contingent upon submission and approval of an application, availability of appropriated funds, and satisfactory awardee performance. Recent awards range from approximately $234,482 to $1.5 million annually. Notification occurs approximately 180 days after application submission.

Evaluation criteria emphasize demonstrated need and readiness to provide services, strength and feasibility of the proposed approach, quality of the evaluation plan, evidence of positive health impact with a remediation strategy, qualification of project personnel, and budget appropriateness to scope. Awardees must maintain grant accounting records for three years after Federal Financial Review submission. Nonfederal entities expending $1 million or more in federal awards annually are subject to single or program-specific audit under 2 CFR 200, Subpart F.

CFDA 93.257. The most recent posted opportunity (HRSA-24-009) closed May 29, 2024; no open solicitation is currently available.
