About this opportunity

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is offering Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions. The purpose of this grant program is to help small and mid-sized organizations improve their ability to preserve and care for their humanities collections. The program encourages applications from institutions that have never received an NEH grant before. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, accredited higher education institutions, state/local governments, and federally recognized Native American tribal governments. The application deadline is January 10, 2025, and NEH anticipates making approximately 55 awards.

NEH expects to award a total of approximately $550,000 through this program, with individual grants up to $10,000 for organizations in the contiguous U.S. and up to $15,000 for organizations in non-contiguous states or jurisdictions. The funded project periods will be 18 months, starting between September 1 and December 1, 2025. Eligible activities include preservation assessments, preventive care, collections management, and staff training, with a focus on preserving humanities collections across the United States.
