Eligible applicants must have an accredited dental/dental hygiene program or approved residency program in general, pediatric, or public health dentistry, with CODA accreditation required by July 1, 2026. Applications will be evaluated based on factors such as collaborations with primary care medicine departments, discipline retention, and student background considerations. The application deadline is March 18, 2025, with awards expected by July 1, 2025.
This opportunity offers approximately $12.5 million in total funding for 27 grants of up to $450,000 each, with a five-year period of performance from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2030. The program requires at least eight weeks of postgraduate training at community-based organizations, focusing on rural training sites, underserved populations, and dental public health residency programs.
Synopsis
The purpose of the Postdoctoral Training in General, Pediatric, and Public Health Dentistry (PDD) program is to improve access to and delivery of oral health care services in rural and underserved communities. If you receive this grant, you will support innovative postdoctoral dental residency and fellowship training programs at community-based organizations (CBOs) to prepare general, pediatric, and public health dentists to practice and lead new models of oral health care delivery. A community-based organization is a community-based, ambulatory patient care center that operates a primary care dentistry training program. Funded grant training activities must start by the beginning of the second budget period, July 1, 2026. You must conduct your project in one or more of the following three focus areas: • Rural training sites. • Underserved populations. • A dental public health residency program.
