About this opportunity
The National Cancer Institute is soliciting applications for a cooperative agreement to establish the Management and Data Coordination Unit (MDCU) of the Pancreatic Cancer Detection Consortium (PCDC), with applications due May 25, 2027. NCI intends to fund one award with total costs of $825,000 per year and a maximum direct cost cap of $500,000 per year over a five-year project period. No cost-sharing requirement applies.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, higher education institutions (public and private), small businesses, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, county and city governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), special district governments, independent school districts, faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, Indian/Native American tribal governments, eligible federal agencies, and U.S. territories or possessions. Foreign organizations, non-domestic components of U.S. organizations, and foreign components are ineligible.
The MDCU will serve as one of two scientific components of the PCDC, supporting collaborative efforts including study design, protocol development, statistical analysis, data management, and biorepository coordination. The Consortium addresses early detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and characterization of precursor lesions to identify patients at high risk of progression, consistent with the National Cancer Institute's 2014 Scientific Framework for Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma. The MDCU will provide organizational and logistics support for consortium activities including two annual Steering Committee meetings (one in-person, one virtual). The Contact Principal Investigator must commit a minimum of 1.8 person-months per year; all other PDs/PIs must commit 1.2 person-months minimum annually. Applicants must budget for professional development of early-stage and junior investigators.
Evaluation criteria include significance, investigator qualifications, innovation, approach, and institutional environment per standard NIH peer review. Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov. The companion funding opportunity is PAR-28-056 (U01 Research Units). Assistance Listing 93.394 (Cancer Detection and Diagnosis Research) and 93.393 (Cancer Cause and Prevention Research) apply.

The PCDC-MDCU will provide support towards collaborative efforts such as study design, protocol development, statistical analysis, coordination and data management. Other PCDC-MDCU activities include: coordination and support towards biorepository building; and organizational and logistics support for PCDC activities.
