About this opportunity

The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women is soliciting applications for transitional housing assistance grants serving victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, with applications due July 14, 2026. Applicants must demonstrate a documented history of effective work concerning VAWA crimes to be eligible.

Eligible applicant categories include state governments, Tribal governments (federally recognized and not federally recognized), units of local government, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, and other organizations including domestic violence and sexual assault victim service providers, coalitions, and culturally specific organizations. The program funds transitional housing and support services for minors, adults, and their dependents experiencing homelessness or housing instability resulting from interpersonal violence. Awarded projects provide 6–24 months of transitional housing paired with voluntary supportive services such as case management, safety planning, employment assistance, legal advocacy, and housing advocacy, with the goal of facilitating survivors' transition to permanent housing and economic self-sufficiency.

Recent fiscal year 2025 awards ranged from $371,848 to $525,000 with three-year performance periods. Award amounts and performance periods are determined on a case-by-case basis. The program awarded 67 project grants in fiscal year 2025, serving between 4 and 174 survivors and their families. Applicants must apply through Grants.gov and the Department of Justice JustGrants System and comply with the DOJ Financial Grants Management Guide and Violence Against Women Act authorizations. Recipients must retain financial records, supporting documents, and statistical records for three years from the date of final expenditure report submission.

CFDA 16.736. Assistance type: Project Grants.
