About this opportunity
The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women is soliciting applications for the Justice for Families program, with an application deadline of July 16, 2026. Eligible applicants include tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), state and local governments, courts, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, legal services providers, and victim service providers. The program funds activities to improve civil and criminal justice system responses to families affected by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and child sexual abuse. Funded activities include court-based and court-related programs, supervised visitation and safe exchange services, training for judicial and court personnel, and civil legal assistance and advocacy services to victims and nonoffending parents.
Historical awards under this program (CFDA 16.021) have ranged from approximately $450,000 to $700,000, with the majority clustering around $600,000 total project costs for three-year periods. Applicants must apply through Grants.gov and the Department of Justice JustGrants system and comply with current DOJ Financial Grants Management Guidelines. Financial records and supporting documentation must be retained for three years from the date of submission of the final expenditure report; if litigation, claims, or audits are initiated within that period, records must be retained until all proceedings conclude. The Office on Violence Against Women will notify applicants by the end of the fiscal year, and the Authorized Representative must accept awards online. Renewals are considered on a case-by-case basis. The program was authorized under the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 and has been funded annually since at least fiscal year 2015.
