About this opportunity

The Justice for Families Program seeks applicants to support court-based and related programs, supervised visitation between parents, training for court system workers, and civil legal assistance. The Office on Violence Against Women within the Department of Justice administers this program authorized under 34 U.S.C. 12464 and CFDA #16.021. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, tribes, and nonprofits. Applications are due January 30, 2024 and will be evaluated based on the scope and quality of proposed programs, plans for coordination, and organizational capabilities.

Awards are expected to range from $300,000 to $800,000 for 12-36 month project periods. Successful applicants will use funding to enhance existing programs and services in their localities, with an emphasis on improving how courts and related agencies respond to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and child abuse cases.

Synopsis

This program is authorized by 34 U.S.C. § 12464. The Grants to Support Families in the Justice System Program (referred to as the Justice for Families Program) was authorized in the Violence Against Women Act of 2013 to improve the response of the civil and criminal justice system to families with a history of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, or in cases involving allegations of child sexual abuse. The Justice for Families Program (CFDA #16.021) supports the following activities for improving the capacity of courts and communities to respond to families affected by the targeted crimes: court-based and court-related programs; supervised visitation and safe exchange by and between parents; training for people who work with families in the court system; and civil legal assistance.
