About this opportunity

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), under the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs, is soliciting applications to implement new and enhance existing juvenile drug treatment courts (JDTCs) that serve youth with substance use disorders or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Eligible applicants include state governments, county governments, city/township governments, and federally recognized Tribal governments seeking to establish or strengthen judicially supervised treatment programs that integrate evidence-based substance use disorder treatment, mandatory drug testing, incentives and sanctions, and transitional services. Key program objectives include reducing recidivism, overdose fatalities, and involvement in criminal and juvenile justice systems while providing treatment alternatives to incarceration. Applicants will be evaluated based on eligibility and responsiveness, merit, programmatic, budget, and risk reviews as specified in the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The application deadline is April 27, 2026.

The total funding available for this opportunity is $4,475,000, with individual award amounts typically ranging from approximately $400,000 to $3,333,333 based on historical awards within the Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program. Projects will have a performance period of up to four years for planning, implementation, enhancement, or state-wide grant activities. Services and program activities will be delivered within state and local court systems, tribal justice systems, and community-based service delivery locations, with performance occurring primarily in the applicant jurisdiction's courts and associated treatment facilities. All grant awards are made as Project Grants or Cooperative Agreements, and successful recipients will receive notification through the JustGrants system with 45 days to accept or decline the award.

Synopsis

This NOFO will support states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized Tribal governments to implement new and enhance existing juvenile drug treatment courts (JDTCs) to improve outcomes for youth with substance use disorders or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
