About this opportunity
The Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) seeks qualified organizations to establish or expand Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs) that provide high-quality training, information, and support services to parents of children with disabilities ages birth through 26. Eligible applicants must be parent organizations with a board of directors composed of a majority of parent members, professionals in special education and related services, and members with disabilities, broadly representative of the population served including low-income and limited English proficient families. CPRCs must strengthen parental capacity to help their children meet developmental, functional, and academic achievement goals while preparing them for productive and independent adult lives. Applications will be evaluated using criteria established in the Education Department General Administrative Regulations (34 CFR 75.210), focusing on project significance, design quality, evaluation methods, organizational resources, and management plans. All applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov as non-fillable PDF files with 12-point font, 1-inch margins, and double spacing by June 5, 2026 at 11:59:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
Individual awards will not exceed $150,000 for a single 12-month budget period, with total program awards not exceeding $750,000, supporting approximately 64 parent organizations nationwide. The project period typically runs from one to five years, subject to availability of funds and demonstrated substantial progress toward project goals, with potential annual renewal. CPRCs must serve geographically defined communities experiencing significant isolation from available sources of information and support, with performance monitored through required record-keeping and evaluation reporting maintained for three years following final expenditure submission.
Synopsis
Purpose of Program: The purpose of the Special Education Parent Information Centers program is to ensure that parents of children with disabilities receive high-quality, relevant, and useful training and information to help improve outcomes for their children.
CPRCs promote the effective education of children with disabilities by "strengthening the role and responsibility of parents and ensuring that families of such children have meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children at school and at home" (20 U.S.C. 1400(c)(5)(B)). CPRCs, consistent with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (20 U.S.C. 1472(b)(4)), meet the specific needs of families in geographically defined communities who experience significant isolation from available sources of information and support.

Under this priority, CPRCs must increase - parents' capacity to help their children (a) meet developmental and functional goals and challenging academic achievement goals that have been established for all children; and (b) be prepared to lead productive and independent adult lives, to the maximum extent possible.
