About this opportunity
The Department of Education is seeking applicants for the Native American Career and Technical Education Program (NACTEP), which provides grants to improve career and technical education (CTE) programs that benefit Native Americans and Alaska Natives. The program aims to fund projects that are consistent with the purposes of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. Eligible applicants include federally recognized Indian Tribes, Tribal organizations, Alaska Native entities, and Bureau-funded schools (except those proposing general education secondary programs). The application deadline is March 10, 2025, and the intergovernmental review deadline is May 7, 2025.
The Department of Education plans to award approximately $21 million in grants, with individual awards ranging from $150,000 to $650,000 per 12-month budget period. Projects may be funded for up to 60 months, and the Department estimates making 30-35 awards. Funded projects may be used for preparatory/remedial education services and student stipends, and grant recipients must demonstrate non-duplication with other federal funding and may have the option to consolidate funding under an approved "477 plan" through the Department of Interior. The places of performance will span tribal lands and communities across the United States, with a particular focus on rural and economically disadvantaged areas.
