About this opportunity
The National Institute of Justice is soliciting applications for research and evaluation projects addressing the needs of crime victims and services they receive, with applications due August 14, 2026. Eligible applicants include nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), state and local governments, tribal organizations (both federally recognized and not federally recognized), higher education institutions (public and private), independent school districts, small businesses, and for-profit organizations.
The funding opportunity comprises two categories. Category 1 supports research on law enforcement-based victim services and evaluation of other programs providing victim services. Category 2 funds research on the extent and effects of technology-facilitated abuse, including nonconsensual disclosure of digitally manipulated images (deepfakes), with emphasis on supporting victims and reducing revictimization risk.
This collaboration between the National Institute of Justice and the Office for Victims of Crime operates under CFDA 16.560 (National Institute of Justice Research, Evaluation, and Development Project Grants). Award periods typically range 12 to 36 months with quarterly fund releases. The source does not specify award ceilings, award floors, expected number of awards, cost share requirements, place of performance, evaluation criteria, or weighting methodology. The NOFO will contain full details on merit review procedures, budget requirements, and selection criteria.
