About this opportunity
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) is soliciting cooperative agreement applications to support clinical trials in communication disorders with an application due date of October 18, 2027. Funding supports trials that require FDA oversight, are designed to formally establish efficacy, or carry higher risk of physical or psychological harm; each award involves collaboration between an NIDCD Project Scientist and the investigator.
Eligible applicants include state and local governments, higher education institutions (public and private), tribal governments (federally recognized and other), tribal colleges, school districts, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, small businesses, housing authorities, HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, AANAPISIs, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian serving institutions, faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, and U.S. territories. Non-domestic entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible.
The funding opportunity supports research addressing hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, and language disorders through CFDA 93.173 (Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders). Evaluation emphasizes scientific merit and significance, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator competency, adequacy of research environment and resources, budget justification, program relevance, innovation, and risk assessment including human subject protection and inclusion across demographics and lifespan. Peer review involves technical panels of scientific authorities and the National Deafness and Other Communication Disorders Advisory Council. Award decisions follow merit-based competition among approved applications.
Applicants must follow NIH Grants Policy Statement procedures and FORMS-I application instructions, including research-specific guidance identified by yellow banner designation.
