About this opportunity
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity to solicit cooperative agreement applications for implementation of investigator-initiated, single or multi-site, interventional clinical trials across all trial phases; no hard application deadline is provided in this forecast.
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, small businesses, state and local governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), tribal organizations, county and city/township governments, special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, independent school districts, for-profit organizations, federal agencies, U.S. territories and possessions, faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, and non-domestic entities.
The program targets hypothesis-driven trials with potential for high clinical impact within NIAMS research mission. Applicants must have completed essential preparation work—trial design, protocol synopsis, data analysis plan—through other means. The cooperative agreement employs a two-phase structure. Phase 1 allows investigators to complete pre-launch requirements including single IRB establishment, site contracts and reliance agreements, and staff hiring. Transition to Phase 2 (trial launch) is contingent on achievement of Phase 1 milestones proposed by the investigator and approved by NIAMS. NIAMS will administratively consider Phase 1 projects meeting their milestones and prioritize successful ones for Phase 2 funding.
The opportunity is assigned to CFDA 93.846, Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Research. Cost share, award ceilings, award floors, expected number of awards, period of performance, and place of performance are not specified in this forecast.
Forecast synopsis
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the Clinical Trial Cooperative Agreement Program within the mission areas of the institute. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) solicits cooperative agreement applications for implementation of investigator-initiated, single or multi-site, interventional clinical trials (all trial phases). Investigators who have completed all necessary preparation (e.g., the trial design, protocol synopsis, data analysis plan, etc.) through other means may apply for a NIAMS Cooperative Agreement Clinical Trial. The first phase is designed to allow the investigators to prepare the final aspects needed to start the trial, (e.g., establishing the single IRB (sIRB), contracts and reliance agreements with sites, hiring of staff, etc.). Transition to the second phase to begin the trial is dependent upon completion of the phase 1 milestones proposed by the investigator and approved by NIAMS. Phase 1 projects that meet their milestones will be administratively considered by NIAMS and prioritized for transition to the second phase. NIAMS expects trials to be hypothesis-driven and have the potential for high clinical impact within the research mission of NIAMS.
