About this opportunity
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks applicants for Resource-Related Research Projects (R24) supporting investigator-initiated, non-hypothesis-driven resource development, with an application due date of May 25, 2029. NIAID anticipates only 1–2 competitive awards annually due to extremely limited funding.
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), for-profit organizations, tribal governments (federally recognized), tribal organizations (not federally recognized), state and local governments, special district governments, independent school districts, and public or Indian housing authorities. Non-domestic entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are ineligible; foreign components as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement are allowed.
No cost share is required. Award budgets are not limited but must reflect actual project needs, with a maximum project period of 5 years. The program supports development of data, materials, tools, or services essential to biomedical research in NIAID mission areas: biology, pathogenesis, and host response to microbes (including HIV); mechanisms of normal immune function and immune dysfunction resulting in autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, allergy, asthma, and transplant rejection; and translational research to develop vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics for infectious, immune-mediated, and allergic diseases.
Proposed resources must provide significant benefit to currently funded high-priority projects, be available to any qualified investigator, maintain high quality control, be replenishable, and not duplicate commercially available or other federally supported resources. Prior consultation with NIAID staff at least 10 weeks before submission is mandatory. Applicants must submit a Data Management and Sharing Plan (2 pages maximum), Resource Sharing Plan, and proof of registrations in SAM, UEI, eRA Commons, ORCID (for PD/PIs), and Grants.gov. Evaluation criteria include significance, investigator qualifications, innovation, approach, and institutional environment. Assistance Listing 93.855.
Synopsis
This notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) invites applications for investigator-initiated Resource-Related Research Projects (R24). The proposed resource must provide a significant benefit to currently funded high priority projects in need of further coordination and support in the areas specified. This mechanism may also be used to support development of a new resource to the broader scientific community of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). It is anticipated that the request for resource support through the R24 activity code will occur on an infrequent basis and only in circumstances where other mechanisms of support from the NIAID are not appropriate. The proposed resources should be relevant to the scientific areas of the NIAID mission including the biology, pathogenesis, and host response to microbes, including HIV; the mechanisms of normal immune function and immune dysfunction resulting in autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, allergy, asthma, and transplant rejection; and translational research to develop vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics to prevent and treat infectious, immune-mediated, and allergic diseases.
Eligibility
Refer to Section III. Eligibility Information in the NOFO for additional information on eligibility.Foreign Organizations/Foreign Collaborations:Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations) are not eligible to apply.Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply.Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are allowed.
