About this opportunity

The National Park Service is soliciting applications for a cooperative agreement to jointly administer the National Parks Business Plan Internship, a graduate-level program focused on improving business management and operational health of national parks and NPS programs, with applications due January 4, 2027.

Eligible applicants include state, local, and tribal governments; other public entities; educational institutions; and 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The program does not fund foreign entities or projects conducted outside the United States. NPS will screen all applicant entities and key project personnel against the SAM.gov Exclusions database prior to award.

The internship program must provide students with in-depth training on NPS business management and operations, exposure to park and program-level operations, and the opportunity to conduct substantive analysis and evaluation leading to recommendations that improve strategic planning and management decision-making. The program should prioritize recruiting highly qualified graduate students from professional disciplines underrepresented in the NPS workforce, including Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Policy, Master of Environmental Management, and similar degree programs, to explore federal careers with conservation and land management agencies. The program should also cultivate a lifelong stewardship ethic for public lands in graduate students from top universities.

The opportunity operates under Assistance Listing 15.954 (National Park Service Conservation, Protection, Outreach, and Education). Award details including funding ceilings, floor amounts, expected number of awards, period of performance, place of performance, and specific evaluation criteria will be included in the funding announcement posted on Grants.gov. NPS strongly recommends consultation prior to submission.
