The program seeks applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations able to provide recreational boating safety services nationally or through partnerships. Applicants must demonstrate tax-exempt status and that public service is a primary function. A total of $5.6 million is available for 15-month projects beginning July 2024, with applications due March 2024 and awards by June 2024. The Coast Guard will evaluate applications based on strategic alignment, timeline feasibility, organizational capacity, and budget appropriateness.

Individual awards are capped at $250,000 per application, with up to four applications allowed per organization. Funded activities must address priorities in the National Recreational Boating Safety Strategic Plan and be measured according to specified performance metrics. Projects will support outreach, education, and data collection activities to advance initiatives influencing boater behavior, manufacturers, and leveraging boating data.
