About this opportunity
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is seeking individual U.S. citizens to create life-size, realistic statues of historical American figures in a classical style using marble, granite, bronze, copper, or brass. The purpose of the National Garden of American Heroes: Statues program is to celebrate key moments in American history and honor the statesmen, visionaries, and innovators who shaped the nation. Applicants must submit a comprehensive application by July 1, 2025, including a narrative, work plan, resumes, work samples, and supporting letters. The evaluation criteria will focus on the artistic quality and historical accuracy of the proposed statues. Awards will be announced in September 2025, with project periods running from October 1, 2025, to June 1, 2026.
The NEH anticipates awarding approximately $30,000,000 across an estimated 150 individual recipients, with each applicant eligible for up to $600,000 to create one to three statues. The statues must be between 5'0" and 8'6" in height, depending on whether the figure is seated or standing, and are intended for installation in the National Garden of American Heroes.
