The primary objective is to improve data collection, reporting, and analysis of child maltreatment fatalities through enhanced cross-agency coordination and collaboration. Key focus areas include building knowledge and capacity, increasing cross-agency cooperation, establishing a national information-sharing resource, supporting data practice strategies, and evaluating technical assistance activities. The center will provide culturally responsive training and technical assistance to states, jurisdictions, and tribal partners to help them develop prevention and intervention strategies. Applicants will be evaluated based on their ability to meet the program's objectives, with the application due by August 27, 2025, and an expected project start date of September 30, 2025.

The grant will provide $1,250,000 for the first budget period, with potential funding of up to $3,000,000 per year for subsequent budget periods. The project is structured as a five-year cooperative agreement, comprising a one-year planning phase followed by a four-year implementation and technical assistance phase. Eligible applicants include states, Indian tribes and tribal organizations, public and private agencies, and combinations of these entities. The program falls under the Child Abuse and Neglect Discretionary Activities (CFDA 93.670), and recipients will be required to dedicate 15% of grant funds to evaluation activities and attend annual meetings in Washington, DC.
