About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health seeks applicants for Modular R01s in Cancer Control and Population Sciences (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) with an application due date of January 7, 2028. The program solicits research on novel scientific ideas in statistical and analytic methods, epidemiology, cancer survivorship, cancer-related behaviors and behavioral interventions, healthcare delivery, digital health and data science, and implementation science that advance cancer research and control.
Eligible applicants include universities, colleges, hospitals, public agencies, nonprofit research institutions, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, tribal governments and organizations, independent school districts, housing authorities, HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian serving institutions, AANAPISIs, tribally controlled colleges and universities, faith-based and community-based organizations, eligible federal agencies, regional organizations, non-domestic entities, and U.S. territories and possessions. SBIR grants are restricted to domestic small businesses (independently owned, not dominant in field, fewer than 500 employees) with primary investigator employment at the small business. STTR grants require a domestic small business partnering with a research institution, with at least 40 percent of project work performed by the small business and at least 30 percent by the research institution.
This opportunity is assigned to two parent programs: Cancer Cause and Prevention Research (CFDA 93.393) and Cancer Control (CFDA 93.399). Evaluation criteria address scientific merit and significance, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator and group competency, adequacy of facilities and resources, budget necessity, and relevance to program objectives. Applications compete on scientific and technical merit, program relevance, and program balance consistent with NCI and NIH priorities. The application period is approximately 10 months for regular grants; SBIR and STTR applications require approximately 7.5 months.
