The Micro-Grants for Food Security Program (MGFSP) is a grant program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) to increase the quantity and quality of locally grown food in food insecure communities through small-scale gardening, herding, and livestock operations. The program provides grants to state or territory agricultural agencies or departments in Alaska, Hawaii, and the insular areas or territories to competitively distribute subawards to eligible entities such as individuals, Indian tribes, nonprofits, educational facilities, and local/tribal governments. Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov by May 28, 2024, and the grant period of performance is 4 years, beginning no later than September 30, 2024. AMS encourages projects that address climate change mitigation or adaptation.

Approximately $5 million in total funding is available, with specific grant amounts allocated to each eligible state or territory. Subawards will be made through a competitive process, and an application review panel will evaluate proposals using pre-determined criteria. The grant has a 3% cap on administrative costs, and indirect costs may also be included if the applicant has a negotiated rate. The MGFSP grant program is assigned the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number 10.179.
