About this opportunity
The Small Business Administration is soliciting applications for Microloan Program grants to intermediary lenders as of June 5, 2026. Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) nonprofits and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits that meet the definition of an intermediary lender under 13 CFR and Public Law 102-140 and satisfy published minimum experience and capability requirements.
SBA makes loans or guaranties to intermediary lenders, which originate short-term, fixed-rate microloans up to $50,000 to startup, newly established, and growing small business concerns. Microloan proceeds are restricted exclusively to working capital, inventory, supplies, furniture, fixtures, machinery, and equipment. SBA also makes grants to participating intermediaries to fund marketing, management, and technical assistance for prospective and current microborrowers, and training for intermediary lender staff.
Recent award distribution (fiscal year 2025–2026) shows 57 project grants ranging from $6,920 to $1,294,921, with most awards between $100,000 and $700,000. Awards carry one-year performance periods. Applicants are evaluated on experience level of organizational officers, directors, and personnel; financial strength; knowledge of local economy; lending and loan performance; current and proposed technical assistance programming; current and proposed market served; availability and probability of matching contributions; and information in the application package. SBA emphasizes geographic diversity, with particular focus on rural areas, economically distressed communities, and underserved populations including women, minorities, low-income individuals, and veterans.
