About this opportunity

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is soliciting applications for Mental Health Awareness Training Grants with an application due date of July 27, 2026; up to 3 awards will be made to tribes and tribal organizations pending sufficient application volume.

Eligible applicants include domestic public and private nonprofits, states, tribes and tribal organizations, institutions of higher education, health facilities, education agencies, and faith-based organizations. The program operates under CFDA 93.532 (Center for Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance) and funds knowledge development, prevention, treatment, and recovery initiatives for individuals with mental health conditions through grants that support (1) knowledge development and application projects for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, and evaluations of such projects; (2) training and technical assistance programs; (3) targeted capacity response programs; and (4) systems change grants including statewide family network grants and client-oriented and consumer-run self-help activities.

Merit review is conducted on all applications submitted, with awards determined directly by SAMHSA to the applicant organization following merit review, program analysis, and concurrence by the CMHS National Advisory Council. The source does not specify award ceilings, award floors beyond the number of awards, or cost-share requirements. Records retention requirements apply for 3 years; records shall be retained beyond the 3-year period if final audit has not been completed or findings resolved. An update to Attachment 6 (Confidentiality and SAMHSA Participant Protection) was incorporated into Section D of the Application Guide.
