About this opportunity
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is soliciting applications for grants to expand and enhance access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), with applications due July 27, 2026. Eligible applicants include Single State Agencies for Substance Use, U.S. territories, local and tribal governments, service providers, nonprofit organizations, universities, research institutions, and training and technical assistance providers.
The program awards a fixed number of grants through competitive merit review, which includes program analysis and CSAT National Advisory Council concurrence. Applicants located in states with the highest age-adjusted admission rates for opioid use disorder treatment—Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont—may earn up to 30 points for the proposed implementation approach section (approximately 5 pages), including up to 10 bonus points. All other applicants receive a maximum of 20 points for this section.
The program operates under CFDA 93.490 (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment Projects of Regional and National Significance) and supports the broader objectives of expanding access to substance use disorder treatment, improving treatment service quality, supporting recovery-oriented systems of care, addressing the opioid and overdose crisis, and strengthening the treatment workforce. Grant recipients must retain records for three years beyond project completion, or longer if final audit has not been completed or findings remain unresolved. Merit review evaluation criteria and specific award ceiling, floor, and performance location details are determined as part of the Notice of Funding Opportunity.
