The purpose of the Medical Student Education (MSE) Program is to provide support to public medical schools in the top half of states with a projected primary care provider shortage in 2030 to expand or support education for medical students preparing to become physicians. The program aims to prepare and encourage medical students in these schools to choose residencies and careers in primary care and serve tribal, rural, and/or medically underserved communities. The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is the federal agency administering this grant opportunity. Eligible applicants are limited to public colleges of medicine in the top 10 states with the greatest projected primary care physician shortage. The application deadline is July 26, 2024.
The anticipated FY 2024 total available funding is $11,000,000 to fund approximately 3 grants fully funded at the outset for a 2-year and 9-month period of performance. The estimated annual award amount is $1,000,000 per budget year. Cost sharing or matching of 1-10% is required. The place of performance is expected to be the applicants' public medical schools located in the top states facing primary care provider shortages.
