About this opportunity

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) is soliciting applications for Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Postdoctoral Research Training Grants (T32) under the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Program, with applications due September 28, 2027. This is a limited competition open only to public higher education institutions; non-domestic entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are ineligible.

Grants support postdoctoral institutional research training programs for individuals holding doctoral degrees including D.M.D., DC, DO, DVM, OD, DPM, ScD, EngD, DrPH, DNSc, DPT, PharmD, ND (Doctor of Naturopathy), DSW, PsyD, and nursing research doctorates. Awardees must create training and career support programs that develop clinical and translational scientists equipped to advance diagnostics, therapeutics, clinical interventions, and behavioral modifications addressing demonstrable stakeholder community needs. The program emphasizes building a heterogeneous pool of trainees.

Clinical trials are not allowable under this funding mechanism.

Evaluation criteria assess scientific merit and significance of proposed training objectives; technical adequacy of design and approach; investigator competency; adequacy of facilities and resources; budget necessity relative to project scope; and relevance to announced program objectives. Two-level review occurs: initial peer evaluation by subject matter committees, followed by NCATS Advisory Council recommendation.

The opportunity falls under Assistance Listing 93.350 (National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences). The parent CTSA Program has awarded recent hub cooperative agreements ranging from $5.75 million to $19.16 million to major academic medical centers. Applicants must use Training-specific application instructions designated in FORMS-I guidance materials.
