About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) seeks applicants for the Limited Competition NCATS Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program Research Education Grants Programs (R25 - Clinical Trial Not Allowed), with applications due May 28, 2027. Eligible applicants are limited to public higher education institutions; non-domestic entities and non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are ineligible, though foreign components of U.S. organizations are permitted.
This R25 grant supports research education activities that enhance training of the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research workforce. The program funds innovative methods and technologies for diagnostics and therapeutics development within NCATS' translational science mission. Clinical trials are not allowed under this mechanism.
NCATS evaluates applications using a two-stage review process: initial peer review by committees of biomedical research and science education authorities, followed by recommendation by the NCATS Advisory Council. Evaluation criteria include scientific merit and significance of study objectives, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator competency, facility and resource adequacy, budget necessity relative to project scope, and relevance to announced program objectives.
The opportunity is assigned to CFDA 93.350 (National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences). The parent program has awarded 1,501 total grants since 1979, with recent annual awards ranging from 39 to 127. Typical individual project awards range from $155 thousand to $1 million. Grant periods run one to seven years, with funds transferred electronically.
