About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health is soliciting applications for High Impact Specialized Innovation Programs in Clinical and Translational Science (RC2 Clinical Trials Optional) with an application due date of September 28, 2026, restricted to public higher education institutions serving as existing UM1 Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program Hubs. Non-domestic entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are ineligible; foreign components as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement are permitted.
The funding mechanism supports development and demonstration of unique hub capabilities, research platforms, and resources that address critical gaps and roadblocks in clinical and translational science. Successful programs are expected to establish a foundation for future adoption and dissemination of capabilities across additional CTSA Program Hubs. This is a limited competition opportunity under the sponsorship of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), CFDA 93.350.
Evaluation emphasizes scientific merit and significance of objectives, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator competency, adequacy of facilities and resources, budget necessity relative to proposed work, and relevance to program objectives. A two-level review process applies: initial peer evaluation by committees of subject matter authorities, followed by recommendation to the NCATS Advisory Council for final award determination. Awards are subject to standard NIH record retention requirements of three years from annual financial status report submission. The period of performance ranges from one to seven years, with funds transferred electronically.
