About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs is seeking grant applicants for the "Leveraging Local Community Partnerships to Combat Nature Crimes" program. This $4 million grant opportunity aims to increase global grassroots civil society engagement in addressing nature crimes, such as illegal logging, mining, wildlife trafficking, and land conversion. The agency seeks 1-2 lead implementing partners to form consortia with local civil society organizations across various countries to deploy community-led approaches. Eligible applicants include U.S. and foreign non-profit/non-governmental organizations, institutions of higher education, and for-profit businesses. Proposals must address either combating nature crimes at their source or reducing global demand for illegally sourced products, and should focus on beneficiary regions in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The application deadline is July 24, 2024, and awards will be made by September 30, 2024.
The grant program is funded through the Environmental and Scientific Partnerships and Programs grant (CFDA 19.017), which supports sustainable growth and addresses environmental, scientific, and health concerns globally. The funding opportunity requires a detailed budget and timeline, and emphasizes the need to demonstrate how the program will support equity and engage underserved communities.
