About this opportunity

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, is seeking a cooperative agreement to conduct landscape pattern research on ridge and slough mosaics in the Florida Everglades. The project aims to establish reference conditions for sawgrass ridge and slough ecosystems, determine vegetation community status and trends, and track ecosystem responses to environmental changes. Applicants must be members of specific Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) Regions and possess a PhD in a relevant field such as vegetation community ecology or landscape ecology. Submissions will be evaluated based on technical merit, capability to meet program objectives, and alignment with USACE missions. The Statement of Interest is due by 2:00 PM Central Time on August 27, 2025, with a 30-calendar-day review period following the posting date.

The base period of the cooperative agreement is 12 months, with funding of approximately $130,339, and potential for up to four additional 12-month follow-on periods. Research will be conducted within Water Conservation Areas 1, 2, 3, and Everglades National Park, with an optional expansion to Big Cypress National Preserve. The project will utilize a Generalized Random-Tessellation Stratified (GRTS) sampling framework, involving sampling of at least 45 sites with 3 quadrats per site, resulting in 135 quadrat samples per Primary Sampling Unit. This research supports the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) and is funded under the Conservation and Rehabilitation of Natural Resources on Military Installations program.
