About this opportunity

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Education Programs is seeking applications for the Landmarks of American History and Culture program. This grant opportunity supports a series of one-week residential, virtual, and combined format workshops across the nation to enhance how K-12 educators and higher education faculty incorporate place-based approaches to humanities teaching and scholarship. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, accredited higher education institutions, state/local governments, and federally recognized Native American Tribal governments. The application deadline is February 12, 2025, and NEH anticipates awarding approximately $2,500,000 among 15 recipients, with awards up to $190,000.

The period of performance is 15 months, starting October 1, 2025 and ending December 31, 2026. The workshops must take place in 2026 and can be structured in two formats: for K-12 educators, two separate one-week sessions serving 60-72 total participants; for higher education faculty, either two one-week sessions serving 40-48 total participants or one 8-10 day session serving 25-30 participants. The program provides stipends to participants: $1,300 for residential/combination participation in 5-7 day sessions, $1,800 for 8-10 day sessions, and $650-$900 for virtual participation.
